Description

Heirloom Star Dog Collars

We love these collars! Studded with a generous quantity of antiqued brass star ornaments, these leather collars are beautiful. Made of full grain bridle leather adorned with antiqued hardware. The edges are stitched, beveled and hand polished to assure comfort. Antiqued brass buckle and dee ring.

The leather for your exclusive piece is sourced from full grain, natural and eco-friendly leather that has been tanned in the US. We only use leather from Wickett & Craig Tannery.  They are just one of the two remaining vegetable tanneries left in the United States. For 150 years, Wickett & Craig Tannery have honed the perfect method for tanning your leather, using a traditional and labor- intensive vegetable tanning technique. This produces leather of exceptional quality which is full of character and recognized for its durability and richness.

Measure at the narrowest point of your dog’s neck, just as tight or loose as you would like the new collar to fit. The collar should be snug, without being so tight that it will cause discomfort or loose enough to slide over your dog’s head.

As a rule of thumb, a well-fitting collar should leave just enough room for you to slide two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck.

These handcrafted products are made from the finest top grain leathers and other quality materials. Products have been featured in Pet Product News, The Pet Elite, Pet Business, Pet Age, Fido Friendly, Dog Fancy, and various print and television ads, including Real Simple Magazine and Better Homes and Gardens!

MEASURING: Even though you can expect some degree of adjust-ability with your new dog collar, it is important to measure your dog carefully.

If you are satisfied with the fit of your dog’s current collar, measure that collar from the center bar of the buckle to the farthest hole. THIS collar is sized from the center bar of the buckle to the farthest hole (See diagram below).  Some brands measure from the center bar of the buckle to the CENTER hole.

  • Please also take into account that each collar will have 2″ of adjustability. Given the example of a 14″ dog collar, a 14″ collar will adjust from 12″ to 14″.
  • If you don’t have a tape measure, your can measure your dog’s neck with a string then measure the string with a flat ruler.
  • A rule of thumb is to leave an allowance for two fingers to fit between the collar and the dog for a comfortable fit. The collar should not be so tight that it will cause discomfort or so loose that it slides over the dog’s head.

Leather is a natural product that will last a long time with proper care. Occasional cleaning with leather care products is a good idea and the use of leather conditioners is recommended. This handcrafted product is made from the finest top grain leathers and other quality materials. Great craftsmanship and will get better in time with basic leather care.
